Roulette: Dispelling The Myths

Roulette is one of the games that are most associated with myths and legends. If you've ever played roulette, you know
how easy it is to fall into certain beliefs about it. So what are the most common beliefs and myths?

The first myth regarding roulette is that all wheels used are the same. This is absolutely incorrect, as there can even
be multiple variations of the game in the same casino. The different versions have a slightly different layout of numbers
so it quite impossible that all wheels are the same. Furthermore, there are different manufacturers of roulette wheels
and each one is slightly different from the others.

Another common belief is that there are Roulette wheels which are not random. This is actually quite ridiculous, as
there are numerous organizations that verify the fairness in every part of the casino, as well as online casinos. Another
fact that doesn't support this belief is the fact that casinos would have been empty long ago if the roulette wheels were fixed.
There's no need to fix them, as the house has a built in edge with the game rules to begin with, and statistically, they
are on the winning side nonetheless.

Some believe that it doesn't matter which type of roulette they play. The fact is, that it's advised to avoid the American
Roulette altogether. It has two green numbers (0 and 00) while the European Roulette has only one green number (0).
This may not seem like a deal breaker, but actually, this makes a huge difference. With the American Roulette, the
house has a 5% edge over you because of the added number, in the European Roulette the house has only a 2.5%
edge over you. This makes a huge difference in the long run and you should avoid the American Roulette whenever possible.

Next, we have something that's more of a betting tip than anything else, but there are some players out there that take
the “corner” bet. This is when you bet on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. This bet gives the house and edge of almost 8% (!). These
are the worst odds you can find at a casino and it should never be used. Choose some of the more favorable bets like
even or odd, or black or red.

The final myth is that there are certain patterns that can be predicted in roulette. The fact of the matter is that there is no
way of predicting anything on the roulette, as it's a game of pure chance. Each spin of the wheel is a completely separate
event, and it cannot point to any different outcome in the following spins. The ball nor the wheel have any “memory” of
some sort and there is absolutely nothing that can point to any future outcomes.
